Below is a link to an OpEd piece I submitted & had published by our local newspaper, The Danbury News-Times,entitled "Our Region had it's Own 13 Reasons." I wrote in response to all of the reactions that were publicized related to the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. In it, a teenage girl, Hannah Baker, takes her life and leaves 13 audiotapes detailing the 13 people she holds accountable for leading her to this tragic choice. I was struck by how the issues of bullying, depression and suicide were suddenly being discussed openly in the mainstream as compared to when Alexa took her life, which was a factual story of similar themes, and there was silence afterward.
